Historic London Recording Studio On Verge Of Closing
London’s famed Olympic Studios has had some financial problems as of late and it was reported not too long ago that there was a possibility that it would be shutting down operations. Although the studio is owned by EMI, they say it is not profitable due to advances in home recording equipment.
Les Claypool To Release Of Fungi And Foe
Les Claypool. A name you have to know for at least two songs. The South Park theme and My Name Is Mud. Claypool, the unique bass player and frontman for Primus has been doing quite a bit of branching out since 2000. With inspiration from his projects with the video game Mushroom Men and motion picture Pig Hunt, Claypool’s creative juices continued to flow. So why not write and record some more.
On March 17th Les Claypool will release Of Fungi And Foe on Prawn Records. A handful of confirmed tour dates for Oddity Faire are below as well as the tracklist for Of Fungi And Foe, after the fold.

Kurt Cobain Journals
January 26, 2009 by Scott
Remember when you were in school and you used to write things down in a notebook but would often rip out the pages in fear that someone might find this notebook and judge you? You might have written songs or letters to someone but it wouldn’t make it to them? Doodles and drawings, random words and stupidness? Remember that? Imagine if you didn’t tear them out and just kept saving them as life went on, sort of like a journal. Kurt Cobain kept dozens of notebooks with this kind of stuff in it.
Moon The Loon…Blew It Up Like A Typhoon
January 23, 2009 by Scott
This is a guest post (in blue font) from a fellow Rock N’ Roll lover. Mohib is a 19 year old who seems to know more about Rock history than most American or Englishmen do, who grew up in or near the era. He also writes for Mindcafe.org, so swing by and check his site out sometime.
Keith Moon, being one the greatest rock drummers ever, was known for his eccentric behavior and destructive lifestyle. Pete Townshend, the band’s lead guitarist, says Moon’s reputation for erratic behavior was something he cultivated. According to him, once they were on the way to the airport and Moon told the driver to return to the hotel asserting, “I forgot something. We’ve got to go back!” When the limo was brought back, Moon broke into the room, grabbed the Television set while it was still connected and tossed it out the window into the swimming pool. When he was done with his service, he then jumped back into the limo, sighing “I nearly forgot.”
In this “smashing” video, the infamous incident is shown where Moon added three times the amount of explosives without letting the other Whos know. It has been rumored that Pete even lost 90 percent of his hearing in his right ear. In addition, the force of the explosion blew Pete’s hair to one side.
R.I.P. Keith Moon! I hope you aren’t doing this in heaven
Thanks, Mohib. We’ll know if he is when a television set comes flying our of the sky and lands in out swimming pool.
Who’s Shoes? The Who’s Shoes By Converse
January 22, 2009 by Scott
Next in line for Converse’s 100th anniversary line of Rock N’ Roll classic Converse All Stars is the legendary British band, The Who. Also up this year is All Stars in tribute to Ozzy Osbourne in February and Pink Floyd in March.
Garnishing the British colors, you can choose from three different selections.
With the classic white soul, a white tongue and the Union Jack wrapped around the canvas body, this pair is surely to be a popular and classic hit. A great representation of The Who’s motherland and their English pride. It’s not just a painted graphic on the should either, it’s sewn in to the canvas.
Scott Weiland For English Laundry Clothing Line
January 22, 2009 by Scott
Scott Weiland’s sobriety, for once is not the issue of the news. This time the former Velvet Revolver and Stone Temple Pilots front-man has teamed with designer Christopher Wicks to start a men’s clothing line.
Christopher Wicks, who owns and designs for his company, English Laundry said, “I have the utmost respect for Scott Weiland, both as an artist and as a designer, he is truly one of the last great rock stars, and his impact on style and music is undeniable. I am proud to be joining forces with him for this collaboration.”
Look for the Weiland For English Laundry line in department stores in February, with prices ranging from $40 to $120. I’m not a Weiland fan, but I hope he’s got his addictions under control.

Rolling Stone Interviews Derek Trucks
January 21, 2009 by Scott
The first time I saw Derek Trucks was on VH1 and he was playing with The Allman Brothers Band. I had no idea who he was at the time, but he amazed me. He amazed me not because he was playing with The Allman Brothers, but how he was playing his guitar. A red Gibson SG, finger-picked with surgical technique and with a tone that felt like velvet to my eardrums. I know that sounds kind of strange, but there is no other way I can really explain it.
There was this young guy (younger than I am) playing his instrument with undivided attention, just plucking the strings and even finger-picking solos and it was wonderful. I’m not a big Allman Brothers Band fan. I know a few songs here and there, but I couldn’t stop watching. The band sounded great and Derek stood out in my opinion. Of course that could be because everyone else is +40 and Derek was probably in his late teens, early 20’s when I viewed this. Derek has been playing for the band since he was 12…12! Getting to my title in point, Rolling Stone recently caught up with the guitar phenom and did a Q&A with him. Check that out HERE.
