Discovering Derek Jordan’s Identity

February 26, 2009 by Scott

Derek Jordan Identity Sometime last year I mentioned on Metal Martyr that Modern Rock Is Dead. To me it was. There was just a lack of bands that wanted to make good rock music. Sure there were train-loads of bands like Hinder, Saving Able and such that seem to be more in the lines of putting together songs and living the life of the rock star. That’s a big problem in every genre of music to include metal, but there are enough “Underground” acts to follow that you can filter out the wanna-be’s and poser fairly easily in metal. I’ve felt this way for years. I lost my faith in modern rock and pretty much wrote it off. With the exception of a handful of rock bands in the mainstream, I wasn’t willing to listen to modern bands. Ana from Austin Sound Check told me to “turn off the radio, word of mouth and blogs”. Since then there have been a few bands that have caught me by surprise.

J.D. Fortune Not So Fortunate. INXS Singer Living In His Pick-Up Truck

February 23, 2009 by Scott

Remember in 2005 when the first Rock Star: INXS show aired to find a new singer for the late INXS singer Michael Hutchence. I really didn’t care for their choice in J.D. Fortune, but it’s their band so it doesn’t matter. Anyway, J.D. Fortune was let go last year. It seems Fortune had a little cocaine problem that the band probably didn’t like, or at least that’s the conclusion everyone seems to come up with. According to Gibson.com, Hutchence first replacement, Jon Stevens had issues with the band before his departure in 2003.

Fortune is trying to finish a solo album, but it’s kind of tough when you;re living in your pick-up truck in Canada. J.D. was not a very nice character on the show and if that’s how he is in real life then all I can say is what comes around, goes around.

Aerosmith Preparing To Hit The Studio

February 19, 2009 by Scott

Aerosmith: Joey Kramer, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton<br /> Aerosmith launches new video game "Guitar Hero-Aerosmith"<br /> Hard Rock Cafe, NY 28/06/08<br />

Aerosmith is preparing to enter the studio to record a new album. Tom Hamilton posted an update at Aeroforceone.com that said:

The big news is that we had our first meeting and strategy session with our producer Brendan O’Brien. We’ve been wanting to work with him for a while.   The meeting came on the heels of the band all working together for the first two weeks.  Things are moving along and it’s now on the fast track. We had a day where we all got to listen to everyone’s songs and ideas.  In the next few weeks we’ll be narrowing down what we’ve got.

You can read the rest of the update at Aeroforceone.com. The thing a lot of people are thinking about with Aerosmith these days is, do they really need to make another record. I used to love Aerosmith back in the day, but I honestly haven’t enjoyed an entire album of theirs since Permanent Vacation. Pump was alright, but everything after that started to seem like it had a more pop-ish approach and failed to really rock. Perhaps they have changed with the times instead of writing the same album 14 times like other classic rock bands, but I just haven’t been moved by Aerosmith in a long time.

On a side note, Tom Hamilton looks like death and Joey Kramer has been wearing that same vest for like 20+ years now. Much respect though.
