Hope For Haiti Now Telethon Nets $57 Million

January 25, 2010 by Nikki Katz

The Hope For Haiti Now telethon netted over $57 million for Haiti and the efforts to help the earthquake hit country.

On Friday night artists including Coldplay, U2, Madonna, Shakira and Justin Timberlake performed at the event that was televised life across all major networks.

A list celebs including Leonardo DiCaprio, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt also appeared.

Bono performed with Jay-Z and The Edge (featuring Rihanna). Their song, “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)” was produced by Swizz Beatz and the collaboration was created over the phone when The Edge and Bono came up with the chorus together.

I knew that Jay would be able to tell a story,” Swizz said of the track. “And that Bono would be able to sing and bring it home.” Rihanna completes the lyrical trifecta. “The last component that I added was Rihanna, and she’s kinda like the angel that’s on the track, softening it up and giving it that caring feeling, because this hook is so powerful.

What do you think of the song?

Aerosmith Looking For Lead Singer

January 22, 2010 by Nikki Katz

Joe PerryThe Toronto Sun recently chatted with Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, and he revealed that the band wants to find an established singer who can headline.

We’re already getting the word out there. The word’s been out there for a while. After my [Canadian] tour, we’ll start having some auditions, making some phone calls,” Perry revealed. “Hopefully, we’ll have found a new singer by the summer, and Aerosmith will be able to go back out on the road.

Perry also talked about the status of Steven Tyler, saying that he hasn’t left the band. “As far as I’m concerned, he hasn’t left the band. He’s never said he was going to leave the band. It’s just that he wanted to go off and do some of his own things. He just never told anybody in the band about it. And so far, he hasn’t talked to anybody in the band. But his manager has told our manager that he wants to take some time off. And then lately he’s been saying he wants to come back. And what his lawyers and his managers have been telling our lawyers and managers is different than what he’s been telling the press. So it’s kind of hard to get a straight answer about what’s going on. But he has to have leg surgery and foot surgery and it’s basically going to take him out of the picture for about a year, year and a half. So, in the meantime, the rest of the band wants to play. And I want to play with the other guys in Aerosmith. So the four of us are just making our plans. We’re gonna find somebody to get in there and fill that spot. Just like when Tom was sick — we got David Hull to come in and play bass. When Brad was sick, we got somebody else to come in and play for him. That’s basically how I look at it; we need another singer to fill in.”

And so will the group tour as Aerosmith? “I think it would be appropriate to call it Aerosmith. We’ll play Aerosmith songs. Maybe we’ll do five shows, maybe we’ll do 20 shows, I don’t know. And hopefully sometime Steven will come back.

U2 Highest-Grossing North American Tour of 2002

January 17, 2010 by Nikki Katz

UPI POY 2009 - EntertainmentSomehow I’m not surprised! U2 managed to rack up the highest-grossing North American tour of 2009. In just 20 days on the road during their 360 tour, they pulled in $123 million at the box office. The band visited 16 cities, sold more than 1.3 million tickets.

Unfortunately, in other news, “Spider-Man, Turn off the Dark,” the $50 million Broadway musical by Bono and The Edge, has been delayed until fall 2010.

The show, the most expensive in Broadway history, was supposed to open in March at the Hilton Theater but production halted when they ran out of funds. Luckily it’s back on, and refunds have been issued for the earlier shows. Now the show will likely begin previews in September and open in November, sources told The Post.

Rock N’ Roll Fantasy Camp – the Reality Show?

January 15, 2010 by Nikki Katz

rnrfantasycampVH1 has recruited reality show guru Mark Burnett for a July 2010 show called Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp! The show will follow musicians’ transformation from mere citizens into rock stars with the help of big-name counselors.

Viewers will get to watch as 15 musicians from a variety of backgrounds and cities will go through the transformative process of becoming “rock stars.”

Rock N’ Roll Fantasy Camp has allowed musicians around the world to make their dreams a reality,” said Mark Burnett. “We are delighted to produce a series about this real-life process and work with the great team at VH1 Classic.

Over the course of four weeks, the show will follow campers as they form bands, rehearse, get schooled by rock and roll legends, and ultimately, in the finale, perform before a live audience in an iconic rock venue.

In preparation for the final battle of the bands, each group must claim their true rock identity by choosing a name, a bad-ass wardrobe, and some killer hair and makeup. With the music know-how, looks, and rock star swagger falling into place, viewers will watch them take the stage in front of a live audience. Will they pass the test and be flocked by groupies…or booed off the stage? The stakes are high, as the band voted best by the fans will win the opportunity every rock fan dreams about – a once-in-a-lifetime performance with a major rock star.

From the Vault: Pearl Jam Performs ‘Even Flow’ Live

January 11, 2010 by Brittany

The 90’s was definitely a great time for rock and Pearl Jam definitely sealed the deal. They kick started a style of rock that would be emulated over the next 20 years. One could say that Nickleback has definitely taken some notes from Eddie Vedder. With that said nothing could ever beat the real thing. This is one band that will stand the test of time and will be recognized as one of the best rock bands.

One of Pearl Jam’s best songs is ‘Even Flow‘. When it’s played in a bar or comes on the radio everyone knows this track inside out, and even if you’re so over the 90’s  you’ll drop everything to sing along!

Here’s their music video for ‘Even Flow’. It’s amazing, to say the least!
