Here is 3 Doors Down National Guard Tribute video.

I spent two years in the National Guard and just got out last December. What I love about commercials and video like this is that they show the U.S. Army National Guard looking ever so ready for anything with up to date gear. The truth is that most National Guard units are still using substandard and obsolete equipment. It’s not so much the National Guards fault, but the fault of the states and funding for the Guard. When Afghanistan and the was in Iraq kicked off, National Guard units all over the U.S. were made ready for deployment.

Sadly after more than ten years without being deployed for military actions, the United States Military realized that the National Guard was grossly unprepared, undermanned, almost untrained, and the equipment they had was old and was in great need of updating. Troops had become much too lackadaisical and instead of the weekends taken seriously for training it would often be just another weekend to sit around and get paid for your time and not your work. Many troops to include officers are out of shape and sometimes not physically up to standard. They use the excuse “This is the National Guard not the regular Army”. The National Guard is on a path to become like the regular U.S. Army and it makes it undesirable for some to have to conform to regular Army standards as they should.

Since then attempts are constantly being made to change all of the previously mentioned problems and hopefully they can maintain this level of readiness and deployability from now on. Many have gone to Iraq and Afghanistan and many have ot made it back. They deserve respect now more than ever.
