Mickey Leigh, the brother of the late Jeffery Ross Hymann, better known as “Joey Ramone” has issued the following statement concerning Linda Cummings (wife of the late Johnny Ramone) using the name “Ramones” while aiding the McCain/ Palin presidential campaign.

“It has been brought to my attention that Linda Cummings, using the name “Ramone,” has recently been in the media joining with the Palin family and the McCains to attempt to aid their campaign for the Presidency. As a President of Ramones Productions, and brother of Joey Ramone, I just want it to be clear that Linda Cummings does not represent the political views of the Ramones. Surely, as for Joey Ramone, the only Ramones song he would sing at a Republican campaign event would be ‘Glad To See You Go!’

“I should add that when Johnny stated ‘God Bless George Bush’ at the 2002 Rock&Roll Hall of Fame awards, I realize now that he was on to something. Because if it were not for George Bush and his handling of our country the past 8 years, I doubt so many Americans, including so many highly regarded Republicans, would now be getting behind Barack Obama.  So, yes, God bless George Bush for paving the way to Obama.”

In the early part of the century all three original members of The Romones passed away. Joey Ramone (Jeffery Ross Hymann) died from Lymphoma in 2001, Johnny Ramone (John Cummings) from prostate cancer in 2004 and Dee Dee Ramone (Douglas Glenn Colvin)overdosed on heroin in 2002.

The Foo Fighters issued a statment early yesterday about John McCain’s use of the song “My Hero” and their discontent for his use of it. This isn’t the first time that this has become an issue. I heard about something similar to this awhile back and my wife and I got into it about it. My argument wasn’t so much that the politician was using it without permission but that some artists don’t want themselves or songs associated with politicians and they have the right to ask them…or TELL them not to use it. The Foo Fighters said:

“It’s frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property,”

Jon Bon Jovi held a private fund raising event at his home in Middleton, New Jersey in support or Presidential Candidate Barrack Obama. Nearly 100 people paid $30,000 to attend the event and Obama even made an appearance at the event stating:

“We’re not going to be bullied, we’re not going to be smeared,”

Bon Jovi is only one of a few rather big named musicians such as Bob Dylan, that has showed his support for the Presidential hopeful.

Unlike the rest of the Van Halen camp, former VH front-man, Sammy Hagar said that he’s cool with either candidate using the song because the lyrics fit the times. I used to dislike Hagar as a singer for VH and not do much as a person, but lately, perhaps I’m opening another part of my mind and realizing that Hagar was a great VH front-man, with some really memorable songs during his time in the band and seems like a pretty good dude.

When I wrote the lyrics to ‘Right Now’, I intended them to inspire people to not sit around and wait for something they believed in but to go out and get it, to make a change however they needed to,” he said in a statement. “Whether it was McCain who used the song or if Obama had chosen to use the song, with the current political climate, the lyrics still have the same meaning, and we all need to do something to make a difference, every action counts. In fact, I still feel so strongly about this that I wrote a new song ‘Cosmic Universal Fashion’ with a young Iraqi musician in an attempt to motivate a new generation to the same affect. I am pleased to be associated with the lyrics to my original song and the new one in hopes that both will make people move to make a difference.”

Glenn Beck…what can I say about this dude? He’s not a rock star…but he’s a thinker. I’m tired of hearing the damn CNN commercials where he goes through his whole thing about being a thinker. I think this was a given. With his history in politics and music, Bob Dylan spoke in support of Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama. In a recent interview with the London Times,when asked for his take on the election race Dylan said this:

“Right now America is in a state of upheaval,” Dylan said. “Poverty is demoralising. You can’t expect people to have the virtue of purity when they are poor. But we’ve got this guy out there now who is redefining the nature of politics from the ground up…Barack Obama. He’s redefining what a politician is, so we’ll have to see how things play out. Am I hopeful? Yes, I’m hopeful that things might change. Some things are going to have to.”
