AC/DC Among Top CD Sales Of 2008

January 1, 2009 by Scott

acdc-black-ice As if I needed to tell anyone this, AC/DC is among the top album sales of 2008. With 1.92 million album sales in the United States via WalMart Exclusive sale, AC/DC ranks # 5 for the year according to Nielsen Soundscan. This does not include digital sales as the band has opted not to do this. I think if they offered an electronic download of the entire album and not individual tracks, it would still sell well. Regardless I don’t think the absence of digital downloads hurt the sales of Black Ice. Either way AC/DC fans would make their way to get the record from Wal Mart/ Sam’s Club.

World wide AC/DC Black Ice has sold well over 5 million copies of this album, an unheard of number for a rock band these days. I think their retirement fund is pretty much set.

Top 10 Rock Albums Of 2008

December 9, 2008 by Scott

acdc-black-ice My Rock Dose Top 10 Rock Albums Of 2008 covers mainly established rock acts and not this new wave of modern rock as we know it. I’ll go through each none and tell you why I chose it. Take in to consideration that I only went through bands that I’ve heard this year and not every rock album that has come out. If you expect Nickelback or Hinder to be on this list then you came to the wrong place. So what does this list mean? Nothing really, it’s just MY favorite picks of 2008, so don’t cry if your favorite band didn’t make my cut. Instead give them a shout in the comment section.

Ben Scott Wants To Play Bon Scott

December 8, 2008 by Scott

zumalive571878-AC-DC-in-Australia Last week I reported that Australian film maker, Eddie Martin was planning and working on the possibilities of making a movie about the late AC/DC singer Bon Scott. Ben Scott, the 35 year old son of Bon wants to throw in his name as a candidate but has no training in acting.

Though Ben’s facial feature resemble Bon, he looks a bit heavier. Not saying that he still couldn’t play the legendary AC/DC front-man, I’m just saying. Ben even says that it’s a long shot that he would be cast for the role due to no acting experience or training.

“Realistically though Paul, I really understand that I have no training in acting so my chances are pretty slim. But hey, you gotta be in to win it…haha”.

You can check out a picture of Ben Scott and read more about this story at Undercover.com.au.

Bon Scott Movie In The Works

December 4, 2008 by Scott

zumalive571878-AC-DC-in-Australia There is a Bon Scott (late singer of AC/DC) Movie in the works by film maker Eddie Martin. Undercover.com.Au reports that Eddie has been working on this for a couple of months and is currently in the research phase.

One of the things that has come out in his research is that despite the numerous books written about AC/DC, he feels no-one has actually nailed the real story yet. “Obviously we have gone through most of them, but talking to Bon’s friends they aren’t happy with the books and feel they have been misrepresented. We want to go much deeper with the movie,” he says.

The movie is untitled as of right now but it seems that Martin wants to make sure he gets the story as true to form as possible. Read more on this at Undercover.com.au.

AC/DC Black Ice Still Selling Like Audio Crack-Cocaine

November 4, 2008 by Scott

acdc-black-ice It’s an official epidemic. AC/DC sold over 780K copies of Black Ice in the U.S. in their first week and it has only slowed down a little bit. It’s estimated they will sell close to 300K more in their second week. This is one of the biggest selling albums in rock. AC/DC are currently on tour in support of Black Ice with Ireland’s “The Answer” opening in direct support.

If you haven’t had a chance to pick up Black Ice, go pick it up. It’s not some new evolution of AC/DC, but it’s the typical fun of listening that AC/DC bring to every album.

The Answer Kicks Of World Tour With AC/DC

October 28, 2008 by Scott

The Answer In Support of their November 11th Never Too Late EP and forthcoming February 16th 2009 release of their Everyday Demons LP, The Answer is heading out on tour as support act for AC/DC. I’ll be posting a review of Never Too Late in the coming week or so. Here’s a little more info on the Ireland band The Answer, who’s singer sounds to me like a cross between Robert Plant and Chris Cornell.

THE ANSWER, a rising rock band from Northern Ireland that made the “Hot List” in the latest issue of Rolling Stone, is the opening act for AC/DC’s Black Ice World Tour. The North American leg of the global itinerary launches today at the Wachovia Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA and wraps January 31 at Nashville, TN’s Sommet Center. Highlights on the road also include shows at NYC’s Madison Square Garden on November 12-13 and The Forum in Los Angeles on December 6 and 8. Rolling Stone noted, “No effing wonder AC/DC tapped these U.K. long-hairs to open on their U.S. tour: The singer howls like Paul Rodgers, the guitarist shreds like Jimmy Page and the lyrics are as awesomely stupid as ballin’ without a rubber.”

AC/DC’s Black Ice Sells Over 3/4 Million In The U.S. And Tops Charts In 29 Countries

October 28, 2008 by Scott

acdc-black-ice I don’t know if this was AC/DC’s final 401k plan so to speak, but if it was, they can be assured that they will be retiring happy. Over 780,000 copies of Black Ice have been sold in The United States in it’s first week of release and over 5 million copies have been shipped worldwide. Ad that to the 5 million+ copies of their back catalog being sold and they have sold 10 million records this year alone. That’s just unheard of! How many other bands can say that they did that this year? None!

Quintuple platinum in one week of sales. Most bands these days are happy if they can move 10,000 units in a week and if they sell 100,000 in a year or two they feel pretty good about themselves. But most bands don’t have the history that AC/DC does, even if most of their albums do sound the same. Even the ever-so-popular Metallica have only move just over 500,000 copies of their latest release, Death Magnetic. With 780,000 sold in the U.S. alone, perhaps some of these other bands might consider taking the Wal Mart exclusive route. Some of the other countries that Black Ice also topped the charts in are UK, Germany, Canada, France, Argentina, Japan, Australia, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland.

Black Ice world tour dates through April after the fold…

AC/DC: Black Ice | Release And Review

October 21, 2008 by Scott

acdc-black-ice So today marks the day. AC/DC has officially released Black Ice through Columbia Records exclusively through Wal Mart and Sam’s Club. Eight years since their last release and months of hype, press and promotion for Black Ice has created such a buzz around these hard rock veterans that it has even re-ignited album sales of their back catalog in record sales and chart positions in the home land of Australia. It has even re-established my fan-hood for AC/DC, which I have long been out of contact with. I still don’t agree with their view of digital media, but I understand.
