Damn Yankees! Ride Again?

March 12, 2009 by Scott

Bravewords.com reports that Jack Blades of Night Ranger hinted in an interview that there might be another Damn Yankees collaboration in the works.

You remember the early 90’s when The Nuge got together with Jack, Tommy Shaw from Styx and Michael Cartellone. They recorded two albums, one being a self titled album and another called Don’t Tread. Don’t tread didn’t hit it off as big as the first and there was a third album recorded that never got released because the band just didn’t like the way it sounded.

In the interview, which was conducted by Rock Pages, Blades says “there is talk of getting back together in March 2009 to record another Damn Yankees album!”. I’m not sure if this is something I would totally be in to, but I would give it a listen. It’s kind of hard to imagine what a new record from the band would sound like considering it’s been 17 years since their last record. If it’s not a hit we can still reminisce about hit’s like High Enough.

Kisstory, The Real KISS

December 14, 2008 by Scott

I’ve been seeing the preview for this for the last week or so but I missed it last Wednesday. Chocolate News always has some funny clips on Comedy Central. This one is no exception. Check out this spoof on KISS and the notion that the gimmick was stolen from an all-black rock band from NOLA.

Staind’s ‘The Illusion Of Progress’ Debuts At No.3 In The U.S.

August 23, 2008 by Scott

Staind The illusion Of Progress Staind’s The Illusion Of Progress came out last Tuesday, August 19th and has sold over 95,000 copies in it’s first week placing them at number 3 on the Billboard 200. This is a great start for sales for the band in it’s first week, while Disney’s Jonas Brothers sold over 520,000 copies in it’s first week. While two different sides of the spectrum, I still think Staind did pretty well in this age of modern rock. What did Staind front-man. Aaron Lewis have to say about that?

“It’s just a different version of the boy-band thing all over again…It’s HANSON 2008, with Disney behind them…How do you compete with that?”

Moving In To August At The Rock Dose

July 31, 2008 by Scott

august rock dose I’ve been working on The Rock Dose now for almost two months and things have been going pretty well. I honestly don’t know how man repeat offenders that I have reading or if it’s more of a come and go every now and then thing.

Moving in to August (yeah, holy crap it’s August already) I will be covering a bit more as far as rock genres go. Unfortunately small changes sometimes have to be made in order to focus on the bigger picture. If you’re a regular visitor of the b5Media music channel you may see some changes made and some blogs disappear. Great blogs like Smells Like Alternative and The Rock Relic will no longer be active in the b5Media music channel.  Albert from Smells Like Alternative knows the alternative scene as well as the modern rock scene better than me and Chuck from The Rock Relic is an amazing writer and knows the history of Rock and the business like the back of his hand. However you can still check out Albert’s writings as he heads over to Evolver.com and Chuck will continue writing The Rock Relic here, so check them out and keep checking The Rock Dose for your daily dose of Rock News, reviews and everything in between.

Want To Sound Like Joe Perry On Guitar?

July 31, 2008 by Scott

Well there is a big difference between sounding like Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and playing like Joe Perry. But if you want to at least start out by learning how to sound like him (His tone), Gibson.com can actually show you how you can capture his tone when recording. While each guitar great has his signature tone that is almost impossible to re-create, here is your chance to make a good attempt in doing so. Check it out!

To create Perry’s tone at a home computer I’ll be using Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3 to build Joe Perry’s tone. (Don’t have Guitar Rig at home? Click on the contest link at the bottom of this page, and you may win virtual amp and cab emulation from Native Instruments’ Guitar Rig—and a Les Paul Traditional, to boot!) I will also give you the settings for the tone, so if you’re using another software product, you can build the tone yourself. If you are using Guitar Rig, you can just download my tone at the bottom of this article and start using it.

Daily Dose…No More

July 20, 2008 by Scott

I’m discontinuing the Daily Dose. Why? Why not. Sometimes my creative juices don’t flow as good as they used and sometimes it feels a bit redundant. However, The Rock Dose will continue to post Rock news, reviews, etc.. I’m still going to try to feature one band a week and highlight things about the band like I have been doing for a few weeks now. There may also be other changes coming…

Radiohead House Of Cards Video

July 14, 2008 by Scott

You want to see an interesting video? Radiohead’s new video for House Of Cards from their latest release In Rainbows, was done without the use of cameras. Below is the and more links to how it was done.

No cameras or lights were used. Instead two technologies were used to capture 3D images: Geometric Informatics and Velodyne LIDAR. Geometric Informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3D images at close proximity, while a Velodyne Lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. In this video, 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced all the exterior scenes.
