Rock And Roll Acid Test…Is A Crock Of Shhh

Have you seen this show? Kind of like the MythBusters of music. They take these legends, stories and theories and try to prove if they are practical or just urban legend. I only saw one show. The show where they were trying to figure out if it was possible for Jimi Hendrix to perform an entire show while tripping on lsd.
Daily Dose 7/1 Sublime - The Wrong Way
July 1, 2008 by Scott
“The only family that she’s ever had
Is her seven horny brothers and a drunk-ass dad
He needed money so he put her on the street
Everything was goin’ fine until the day she met me”
Yeap, two days in a row with a dose of Sublime and I’ll be doing it all week. Why? Because Sublime is one of my favorites. I don’t know why. I don’t listen to reggae, I’m not into ska, and I don’t really listen to much Grateful Dead. But I still like rock and a little bit of old school punk and as I said yesterday, Sublime knew how to mix it up. This is another off of their self titled album. I’m going to try to change it up tomorrow and bring a live video from a song that wasn’t played on the radio or MTV. Lyrics after the fold. Read more
Daily Dose 6/29 Seether - Rise Above This
June 29, 2008 by Scott
“Take the light, undarken everything around me
Call the clowns and listen closely, I’m lost without you
Call your name every day when I feel so helpless
I’m fallin’ down but I’ll rise above this, rise above this.”
Bring it up to modern day today. Seether’s Rise Above This video from the new cd Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces. I’m not 100% sure, but it’s said that this song is about Shaun Morgan’s (The Singer) brother that committed suicide but was actually written before his death. I think the message here is that suicide is not a way out. It hurts everyone around you and no matter how depressed you are and the problems you have, there are people that love you and can help. Of course we know this is nothing that hasn’t been said before but sometimes people need to be reminded. Lyrics after the fold.
Controversial Album Covers | Van Halen 1984
June 13, 2008 by Scott
Remember this? When Van Halen’s 1984 came out there was a bunch of controversy over the album cover over a baby…who also happens to be an angel…smoking a cigarette. Back then this was a big deal. Yep, that’s right…this was controversial back then. Kind of funny if you think about it. I wonder what these people that thought this album cover as taboo think of some of the album covers of today.

There Is Just Something About Vinyl
June 13, 2008 by Scott
What the hell is it that has made vinyl stand the test of time. All other media with the exception of the compact disc and now mp3s has come on gone but there is still a demand for vinyl. Now it may not be such a demand as every band is printing albums on vinyl but a few here and there know their fans well enough that if they do take the time and money to get vinyl albums made, the fans will buy them.
Welcome To The Rock Dose Version 2.0
June 6, 2008 by Scott
Welcome to The Rock Dose Version 2.0. While Bruce did a great job (with all due respect) it’s time for an upgrade. Let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Scott and I currently write for the Metal blog here at b5Media Music Channel called Metal Martyr. I like Heineken, heavy music, playing guitar, working hard and playing harder. I also try to stay fit and semi-healthy. I’m originally from Upstate NY, but reside in a small town in NC. I met Robert Plant when I was 14 but didn’t have a clue who he was. A few of my first favorites as a young kid was Aerosmith, AC/DC and Whitesnake. After more radio lsiten I satrted to discover newer bands and thing just progressively got heavier from there but I didn’t forget the rock bands that started it all and I listen to a pretty wide variety of music…with the exception of country.
Anyway, I’m going to keep a sliver of the format that Bruce had with the quote and video every day, however I’ll be also feeding you with Rock news, reviews and some opinionated posts as well. From modern rock to classic rock and everything in between. I’ll do my best to cover it. Even the smaller underground bands and the bands that are still on the scene but just don’t get seen. I hope you will enjoy.
