Seether Cover Wham! Careless Whispers
I heard Seether’s Cover of Wham’s Careless Whispers a few weeks ago and then was reminded again about it by Musicgoat.com. I heard it again on the radio today and I don’t feel ashamed at all when I sing along to…Seether’s version. I probably heard this a thousand times coming from my sister’s room in the early 80’s. Seether make it, well, sound like Seether covering Aha. Is it better than the original? Well, I can’t really say that I liked the original, but this one works for me. This isn;t the best quality sound but it will give you …read more
Badfish, Living In The (Sub)Lime Light
I almost went to see these guys last year, but the venue was too damn far away for me to drive out to see a tribute band, even though I’m a huge fan of Sublime. However generic you may think Sublime is, with the reggae overtones mixed with ska, punk, and hard rock, you have to admit that it’s cool and fun music.
Uncovered: Shinedown Cover Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Simple Man
July 10, 2008 by Scott
This is not one of my favorite covers. I mean, how can you cover a song like Simple Man and do it even close to lynard Skynyrd’s version. In this all acoustic arrangement of Simple Man, Shinedown fall short and in my opinion really make it sound…not so good. Good effort but the way the guitars seem half strummed and the leads mix does not do the song any justice. Simple man is a classic that I really don’t beleive should be done as a studio recorded song unless you’re going to do it to it’s fullest. What’s your opinion. …read more
Uncovered: Guns N Roses Cover Aerosmith’s Mama Kin
We all know how cover songs can go from a classic original to a badly butchered peice of rotten meat real quick, right? Luckily for us this isn’t the case, but honestly, can anyone think of a cover song that Guns N Roses did that was actually bad? Their Spaghetti Incident cd was quite cool and featured cover songs of all sorts with that G n’ R feel to them. This cover of Aerosmith’s Mama Kin was on the Gn’R Lies album which had all sorts of great tunes on it. Enjoy the a live version by Aerosmith first and …read more
Uncovered: Sublime – Rivers Of Babylon
July 3, 2008 by Scott
If you’re big into reggae then you know this song from Boney M. I’m not into reggae and the only reason I know who the original is from is because if Wikipedia. Sublime do a beautiful version of Boney M.’s Rivers Of Babylon. If you like the original you, you may like Sublime’s version. It’s a kind of live version, unplugged. Sublime covered so much ground, musically. Otis Redding, The Grateful Dead, Bad Religion, just to name a few. They were an amazing band.
Even though I’m not into reggae there is one thing that con not be denied and that …read more
Uncovered: Bad Religion’s ‘We’re Only Gonna Die’ Covered By Sublime
July 1, 2008 by Scott
This is one of my favorite Bad Religion Songs and is a classic at that. Sublime covered Bad Religion’s ‘We’re Only Gonna Die (For Our Own Arrogance)’ on their 40 oz To Freedom album. While it took me a little to get used to because it’s quite different from the original until the breakdown, it is still a cool twisted cover. This song was also covered by NY Hardcore band Biohazzard, which was a much easier cover for me to like because for one it was on their Urban Discipline album which in my opinion is their best album and …read more
Uncovered: Goo Goo Dolls & Fred Durst – Wish You Were Here….Wish you hadn’t
June 17, 2008 by Scott
Remember this? Shortly after 9/11, the worldwide donation drive for tributetoheroes.com did the live show with artist of all sorts performing together. While I know it was for a good cause and everything, this whole collaboration with The Goo Goo Dolls and Fred Durst is an abomination. Sorry, but you can’t take a classic song like Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here, and change to words. WYWH lyrics already fit the time and situation. There was no need to try to make it your own or whatever he was trying to do by changing the lyrics…it’s just not right. Nice …read more
Uncovered | Pearl Jam – Love, Reign O’er Me
June 9, 2008 by Scott
It’s very rare that you hear a band cover another classic bands song and do such an incredible job that you just can not believe your ears. Sure there are a lot of catchy cover songs out there and more often than not bands try to cover fairly easy and radio friendly songs that they know will get air play and will surely set them on their way to instant stardom. We’ve seen it a million times. What’s better is when an established band that obviously doesn’t need the help of a cover song takes it and sings and plays …read more
