Does KISS Deserve a Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction?

Though the fact remains that I don’t care much for Gene Simmons or KISS these days I still think they should probably be in the Rock N’ Roll Hall Of Fame. Millions of records and merch sold, concert after concert sold out all over the world, millions upon millions of fans and influences on so many bands. Yeah, I think they deserve to be there just as much as, let’s say Metallica or Black Sabbath. Of course Gene Simmons thinks they deserve to be there as well. In a recently taped episode for A&E’s Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels he had this to say:
“There are disco bands, rap bands, Yiddish folk song bands in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, but not KISS,” the band’s outspoken frontman said during a speech at the Billboard Touring Conference on Thursday. “I believe we have more gold records in America than any other group, but it’s OK.”
Concerning the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame Board members, he says:
“A lot of those guys on the board can go and get my sandwich when I want, and I mean that in the nicest way,”
He’s got a point. I mean what the hell do you have to do these days to get in to the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame? Of course Gene or one of the boys may have burned some bridges in the past and that doesn’t help things, nor does the sandwich statement.
On another note, if they ever are inducted I surely hope they include every band member that has been involved with their success…that success being with Ace Frehley and Peter Chris. Let’s be honest…everyone after that was just hired help.

I love KISS. They rock. I saw them in concert and it was a really awesome show. They deserve to be inducted into the Rock Hall. I don’t much care for how Gene pimps out the KISS brand, but I love their music.
I still like the older stuff….maybe Gene can buy his way in to the hall of fame of they don’t get nominated. After all, he claims to have enough money to buy a small planet.
I think that snubbing KISS for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the biggest travesty in music. There is no denying their impact on rock music and there are several acts that have been inducted already that grew up listening to them. It is not a matter of taste. There are acts that have been inducted that I don’t particularly like but do not deny their influence and talent. I personally will NEVER support the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame until KISS is inducted.
I think Kiss deserves it, but I understand why they haven’t been inducted yet.
They had a great run for the first albums until Love Gun. Then with all the studio musicians, hired hands, outside songwriters, etc. It was more of a business, or a clown act like the circus…I loved that band and it is sad to see what they have done. Tommy wearing Ace’s makeup and Eric wearing Peters makeup is insane!
No but the problem with the nominations is that the two biggest drips in music (Robbie Robertson and Jann Werner) are on the nomination board. Trust me on how bad Robertson is, anyone who knows Levon Helm will tell you about that. Plus ELO, Chicago, Alice Cooper, Moody Blues and many others are more deserving than KISS.
