Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. A ‘Uge Success

September 11, 2008 by Scott

guitar-hero-aerosmith-logo When I lived up in near Watertown NY there was a car franchise with this heavy Italian dude that owned it called Fucillo Auto. Everywhere you would go you would hear the stupid commercials on T.V. and the radio and his tag line was “It’s Gonna Be ‘Uge”. Every damn sale was gonna be ‘Uge. So then I move to NC and now I have to put up with Marc Jacobson and his stupid dog. Enough of my griping.

Guitar Hero 1, 2, 3 and Rock The 80’s have been a huge success as well as Rock Band, so it really wasn’t a big surprise that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith saw the same success. Gamedaily.com reports the following:

Enter Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, a game centered around a group of aging but well known rockers. Despite the fact that the game offered little different compared to the gameplay features in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and has perhaps the narrowest selection of songs in the series’ history, the game is a hit, just like its predecessors. Its success will probably set a precedent for a whole new set of Guitar Hero games, opening up another rich field for Activision to farm. We examine the title’s success.

To put the sales in perspective, Aerosmith’s last studio album, 2004’s “Honkin’ on Bobo” sold 160,500 copies in its first week, equating to roughly $2 million in sales. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith sold 567,000 copies in its first week, grossing roughly $25 million.

No doubt Guitar Hero: World Tour will blow sales through the roof with the added features that rock band currently have and more. Looks like if I plan to enjoy playing World Tour, I’ll have to upgrade to an XBox 360 or PS3. I use to excuse that it’s for the kids, but my wife knows the truth.
