Jack Bruce Of Cream: "F*ck Off, Zeppelin. You’re Crap."
November 5, 2008 by Scott
Did I miss someone from Led Zeppelin talking trash about Cream somewhere along the line? The Classic Rock Awards were held last night and Cream won the gong for “Classic Album” with their 41 year old release of “Disraeli Gears“. Accepting the award was Jack Bruce who was also pulled in for a post-award interview with Classic Rock Magazine’s Dave Ling. Here is just a little bit of Jack Bruce’s anti-Zeppelin rant:
Everybody talks about Led Zeppelin, and they played one fucking gig – one fucking lame gig – while Cream did weeks of gigs; proper gigs, not just a lame gig like Zeppelin did, with all the [vocal] keys lowered and everything. We played everything in the original keys. [Becoming animated]: Fuck off, Zeppelin, you’re crap. You’ve always been crap and you’ll never be anything else. The worst thing is that people believe the crap that they’re sold. Cream is 10 times the band that Led Zeppelin is.
That’s a bold opinion.
What? You’re gonna compare Eric Clapton with that fucking Jimmy Page? Would you really compare that?
While I could say that Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page are two differently styled guitar players, they are both brilliant in their own right. Is Bruce jealous of all the hype and press Zeppelin is getting these days? I’m kind of tired of it too, but jeeze.
On other message boards I heard people say stuff like “Zeppelin are over rated 5 hit wonders”. I bet that same person could not even name 5 Led Zeppelin tunes and if he/she could would probably name only the ones played on the radio. 5 hit wonders…that’s funny. Another even said “The studio did a lot of justice for Page because he sounded terrible live.” There may be some truth to this because when Page was in the studio he could do both rhythm and lead parts and it’s tough to emulate that sound on stage.
You also have to think that the Studio these days are a lot different. Pro-tools make a big difference in recording and were not present when Zeppelin recorded. You had to do multiple takes sometimes to get it right and could spend hours in there on a single guitar part. You only get one take on stage and you can rarely compare a live sound with a studio sound with bands back during that time. Hell these days a lot of bands have a hard time playing half of their songs live because of how it’s recorded.
Anyway Jack, don’t get yourself so worked up.

Go Jack! You are absolutely right!
I love both bands and Jack Bruce and John Bonham are my heroes but lyrically, Cream were better. I get kind of tired of that whole “Got me a woman” stuff that Rob was always singing. They got more mature in the late 70s.
Absolutely Bruce is fucking Jealous of Zeppelin’s unique musical ability, success, wealth and all-in-all, beautiful groupies… lolz.
Fuck off Bruce…. You’re over.
I love Clapton. And Clapton loves Jimmy.
Cream and Zeppelin were both blues bands but Cream had a more psychedelic approach to their songs. Led Zeppelin’s advantage was that they were able to make their blues into really hard heavy metal rock. Cream had a more basic blues timing.
Jack Bruce sounds like a jealous bitch. I think musicians should respect each others’ work, bands and reputation. He has admitted himself he’s jealous with the greatest rock band ever, Led Zeppelin:

Cream does not suck though. A blues/ blues rock approach with an awesome product in their own limitations and limited creativity. Lets face reality…. Zeppelin ate Cream(y) booty.
Totally respect Mr. Ruddock’s opinion.
My final words to Jack Bruce (taken from a RS mag comment):

Hey Jack go back to the weeds. Sit in your
sea of green, playing with fire will only get
you burnt. “
