Review: Sound And Fury
If I were about 12 years younger I would probably really dig Sound And Fury. Back then I was kind of going through this Old School Punk trip where I was into the old school punk sound as well as metal and rock. However, over the years I grew out of that sound and only every now and then do I listen to any type of OSP.
Sound And Fury have a good fairly clean hard rock sound with old school punk style with Luke Metcalf on the mic. Schools out has a NOFX kind of sound to it and start the cd of with a lot of energy and Teenage Rampage comes in next with a flashback to the Wasted Youth. AC/DC is the first band that comes to mind as the cool rhythm of Can’t Get Enough comes in on the third track. 18 brings back that alt/punk sound again and then back to AC/DC-ish sound with Bad Touch. They keep that vibe going with Night Of The Ghouls and High School HotBox. Runaway Love swings them back into punkish overdrive and Supercharged gives you the best of both side of spectrum of this CD. The Stranger and Hellhound are just cool hard rockin songs.
Like I said, 12 years ago I probably would have enjoyed this CD more. However it’s not a bad CD. It took me more than one listen to actual get into it, but it’s not something I could listen to every day…or week for that matter. Sound And Fury keeps it simple yet interesting enough not to shut it off. Simple, yet complex enough to keep from getting bored. Enough energy to keep the crowd moving at a live show and they are probably a great live act.
The press flyer that came with the cd in the mail had an excerpt from All Access Magazine that described the band as :“If AC/DC (Bon Scott ere) and The Sex Pistols got into a bar room brawl it would probably sound something like, the hard hitting debut release from Sound And Fury”. That sounds about right to me.
Sound and Fury is:
- Luke Metcalf: Vocals
- Griffin: Lead Guitar
- Darryl Coppins: Rhythm Guitar
- JOhn Kerns: Bass
- Chris Avalos: Drums
