Have you seen this show? Kind of like the MythBusters of music. They take these legends, stories and theories and try to prove if they are practical or just urban legend. I only saw one show. The show where they were trying to figure out if it was possible for Jimi Hendrix to perform an entire show while tripping on lsd.
First problem? They try to simulate an acid trip by “over-stimulating” the senses. Why do I have a problem with this? Can anyone honestly say that they can simulate an acid trip? LSD effects everyone a bit differently. How do I know this? Besides hearing about it from other people, I experienced it in my younger days a couple of times. I don’t think it’s anything that you can simulate. With that said, there is also the fact that if you ask anyone that has used LSD before to an extent, they will tell you that you can not do it often because the effects won’t be as strong.
The story has it that Jimi Hendrix would sometimes perform a concert while tripping on LSD and it has also been said that he used to place it in his headband, that way when he started to sweat it would absorb into his skin. So if Jimi did it often, it would not be as effective and I believe that he COULD perform an entire show while tripping on LSD. And for crying out loud…IT WAS JIMI FRIGGIN’ HENDRIX!!
So this is how they simulated the acid trip: In a large black box with strobes and other lights, stink bombs, heat, cold, extreme noises, etc. Things to over stimulate the senses inside a large black box while member of Puddle Of Mudd (I F’n Hate them, la-la-la-la!) attempted to play their instruments while standing on a spinning platform. To me this doesn’t sound anything like an “acid simulation” and more like a room in a funhouse out of control.
C’mon, your going to have to do better than that! It’s a little overboard and unoriginal. At least the Mythbusters have a clue. These guys seem a bit misguided.
