Seether’s Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces Doesn’t Get Enough Credit

December 17, 2008 by Scott

Seether FBINS Seether: Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces is an album that I bought earlier this year when I took over The Rock Dose. I’ve only listened to it a few times but I was writing a few things on Metal Martyr this morning while listening to Samhain, an old favorite of mine. After Samhain and breezing through a few other “S” bands like Scar Symmetry, Scorn and The Scorpions, Seether came on and I just let it play from the beginning instead of skipping to the “hits”.

This is a highly under-rated album and band as well. They only get a few hits on the radio and I don’t think they get enough credit in the world of Modern Rock these days.  Perhaps they don’t get much more than radio-credit because of the language in some songs.

Amongst all the Schlock or Cock-rock, whatever you want to call most of it these days, Seether is a bit different in my opinion. They have a sound for me that is catchy enough to really dig but not poppy enough for me to dislike. Even though Shaun Morgan has a bit of Cobain in his voice at times I really dig his tone. Then again I always liked Kurt Cobain’s voice so that helps too.

If you’re not happy with many of the modern rock acts of today, give Seether a shot and you just may find that you like what they offer.

  1. For me is this CD one of the best in the last years in the rock world.
I’ve seen them live in Zürich a few months ago and this concert was one of the highlights of this year.

I think modern radio rock doesn’t get the attention it once did, and for good reason. Even seasoned acts like Foo Fighters are starting to get repetitive. And Nickelback. Don’t even get me started. The genre as a whole just isn’t as innovative as other areas of the music world.

That said, I totally agree with you about Seether and this album. It is one of the best modern rock albums out. Shaun Morgan does sound Cobain-ish but that’s a good thing in my book. Try their 2002 album Disclaimer.
