KISS bass player and pretty much spokesperson, Gene Simmons has confirmed plans for another KISS Studio Album saying:

“We’ll do a handful of shows just to keep in the game (next) summer, maybe 10 (dates), some Canadian shows. I know Halifax is one, but before you get out there and start the baseball season, they hold exhibition games, that’s what we’re doing. ‘Cause once we go out, it’s going to be for a year and a half.”

He also tells of plans he has for finding the next big rock band for his Canadian label.

I had to add that last part in to the title just so I didn’t sound as if I like Gene Simmons. I’d hate you guys to get the wrong idea. Gene appeared on “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?” hosted by Jeff Foxworthy last Friday November 7th.

Gene won $500,000 for the charity Glazer Pediatrics AIDS Foundation. He also had a chance to win $1,000,000 but declined to risk it by answering the question “What does the K represent on the Periodic Table of Elements?“. He said that if he would have had to answer he would have said “Krypton“. Yeah, you laugh, but how many of you could actually answer that question? Furthermore how many of your children in 5th grade could answer that? (The answer is Potassium)

Gene played it well and 500k went to a good cause. Can’t hate the man for that, right? Check out the video below, while you still can.

Why would Gene Simmons not run for president? I think you have to be a native U.S. Citizen for one, but the reason that he says he wouldn’t run is because “the job doesn’t pay enough.” When you have the money that Gene does, I can totally understand! What? I’m agreeing with something that Gene Simmons said? Yes, I am. I mean, If you had millions of dollars why would you want to take a job that is more stressful, more work, less money and something that probably isn’t all that fun in the first place. Politics suck and having the weight of America on your shoulders doesn’t help. Sure George W. Bush proved that a mentally handicap person can sit in the White House and make it look as if he’s running the country, but we know that he was more influenced by everyone around him. In the end I don’t think that “W.” has the mental capacity to wipe his own ass, no less run the country…but millions of stupid people voted for him for a second term. According to the Orlando Sentinel, KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons is among the celebrity players that will take part in the new season of Fox’s “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”

Model Kathy Ireland will kick off the game show’s third season at 8 p.m. Friday, September 5. Also playing this season will be actor Dean Cain, boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, TV personality Star Jones, “Beverly Hills, 90210″ alumna Jennie Garth, astronaut Robert “Hoot” Gibson, zookeeper Jack Hanna, astrophysicist George Fitzgerald Smoot III (a Nobel laureate) and “Jeopardy!” all-star Ken Jennings.

While I think that Gene Simmons is money-smart, I doubt if that brain of his has retained anything but titties and dollar signs for the past 40 years.

As if we needed another piece of KISS merchandise. Now you can get a shitty Pez candy dispenser. They’re not like your typical Pex head type dispenser. Its a plastic container with a sticker on the outside of it. What’s the deal with the Gene Simmons and Peter Chris. It’s Gene Simmons with his tongue out as usual looking as if he’s trying to lick a cat? No Wait…maybe I’m thinking of another word…

Surprised, Right? Riiiiight. As if we didn’t see this coming light years away. Kiss are capitalizing just a little more on Guitar Hero and probably Rock Band in the future. I’m actually surprised it took them this long. There was an actual full scale guitar with KISS on it, but I don’t know if it was ever produced or available to the public. If they really wanted to get in on it good they would create Gene’s Battle Axe bass and maybe Paul’s Ibanez Iceman guitars for Guitar Hero. Sure there are decals and lay-overs with Kiss, Ozzy and Motley Crue, and Slash (Personally I like the bulls eye Zakk Wylde one for the SG) but it would be cool to actually see some variety in guitars besides Gibson shaped and the ugly after market wireless guitars. So why just cases for Guitar Hero?

By the way…the guitars are made of plastic and I really don’t think cases are necessary. If it was a real SG, Les Paul or Explorer I could understand…but it’s a toy. I love the game…but it’s-a-toy.

XFM interviewed Gene Simmons at Download Festival, a festival to celebrate downloading and ironically Gene thwarts the fans for downloading…wtf?

Antimusic.com published a post and said it best, although not saying anything that hasn’t already been said. Apparently the writer of the post feels the same as the rest of the world does about KISS’s compilation after compilation of the same old songs.

Here is what Gene told XFM, “In all seriousness - and it’s unfortunate - but the record industry is dead; it’s six feet under the ground and unfortunately, the fans have done this. They’ve decided to download and file share and there’s no record industry around. We’re gonna wait till everyone settles down and becomes civilized and as soon as the record industry pops its head then we’ll record new material.”

Earsucker covered this briefly the other day. I don’t mean to show her up but I’m going to elaborate a bit more on it.

Gigwise.com covered an article yesterday saying:

Simmons said that bands have a responsibility to provide a spectacle for their fans and shouldn’t just stand static with a guitar.

“I admire bands like Radiohead, but the idea of being that serious?
Fuck that, get up on stage and blow shit up,” Simmons said.

Simmons went on to compare live performances to films, saying that they require audio and visual elements.

“If you’re not fulfilling the visual part it’s like watching a movie with your eyes closed,” he told WENN.

“One of the biggest compliments we get is (when people say), ‘I f**king hate their music but that’s the best show I ever saw in my life.’”

So Radiohead got some flack for some bad reviews from saying that the band didn’t put on their best performance during the opening gigs of their European tour. It happens. But to say that bands should blow shit up is over the top. Some fans just want to see and hear their favorite band perform. I’d rather see radiohead stand still and perform their music than to see Paul Stanley in lipstick doing his silly little dance in his spandex tights with his gut hanging out and barely getting a word in the microphone. Or Gene Simmons sticking his tongue out dressing like a “Demon” with sword of fire and dripping blood from his mouth.

Not everyone needs a super dose of visual stimuli to appreciate a rock show. To some people it may be about the “Spectacle” of it all but honestly I think to most it’s about enjoying the music. If I want to see blood and fire I’ll watch a Disney movie. I enjoy the music during a show, if the bands on stage doing acrobatics with out of tune guitars and shitty rhythm then it’s not a show, it a circus…I Psycho Circus (Pun intended). Get over yourself Gene!
