The Eagles Top Rock Ticket Sellers Of 2008
January 14, 2009 by Scott
The top 20 ticket sellers of 2008 are in and there are 11 bands/artists that can be considered rock. Even though I would consider Coldplay to be more Pop music than rock, we’ll give it to them here.
The Eagles took #4, selling 90.7 million dollars in tickets. The Eagles released their first studio album since 1979 with The Long Road Out Of Edin which sold over 7 million copies in the U.S. and was sold Exclusively through Walmart and Sam’s Club for the first year of it’s release.
AC/DC wasn’t too far behind in the #5 spot selling $82 million in tickets…and that’s only in the last 4 months of the year! AC/DC’s Black Ice, also released exclusively through Walmart and Sam’s has sold millions and millions of copies worldwide. I’m telling you, Walmart is the way to go if you’re an established and respectable band
Coldplay sold $81.6 million to win them the #6 spot.
Bon Jovi sold 81.4 million to land them in #7. Of course Bon Jovi ticket prices are insultingly expensive.
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street band sit happy in #8 with a cool $79 mil. I imagine with the new record , this years ticket sales will land them in the top 10 again this year.
Neil Diamond sold $70.5 million to land him in the #11 spot right behind Rascal Flats.
Metallica, even though they were touring most of last year and released an album mid 2008, still only sold $56.4 million. With all consideration though, their ticket prices probably aren’t as inflated as most of the band/artists on this list.
