Uncovered: Shinedown Cover Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Simple Man
July 10, 2008 by Scott
This is not one of my favorite covers. I mean, how can you cover a song like Simple Man and do it even close to lynard Skynyrd’s version. In this all acoustic arrangement of Simple Man, Shinedown fall short and in my opinion really make it sound…not so good. Good effort but the way the guitars seem half strummed and the leads mix does not do the song any justice. Simple man is a classic that I really don’t beleive should be done as a studio recorded song unless you’re going to do it to it’s fullest. What’s your opinion. First the original and then the cover.

I like both versions, Skynyrd’s because of its rock sound and Shinedown’s because of its rough edge on the song. An excellent one would be non-acoustic with the rough edged voice.
I’d prefer if it was done much closer to the original myself. I like shinedown, but I really don’t like this cover.
You guys must not be listening to the same track, cause that boy sings his fuckin’ heart out on that cover. One of the best covers I’ve heard…Skynyrd is almost impossible to cover, but Shinedown did this legendary track justice.
Hey Lucas, It’s not so much the vocals on this cover that I dislike, it’s the guitars. It’s a rather strange and half staum arrangement that I’m not diggin. It just sounds weird to me. It’s not a cover I hate like some other covers I’ve heard, it just doesn’t work for me.

I like skynyrd and i love shinedown, and i have throughly listened to both versions many many times, and as much as i would like to say the skynyrd version is the better of the two, i cannot but like the passion and feelin the come with the shinedown version.
